President Pratibha Patil will unveil the foundation stone of the
South Indian campus of the Indira Gandhi National Open University
(IGNOU) at a function to be held in Kanakakkunnu Palace on Wednesday at
Vice-Chancellor V N Rajasekharan Pillai told reporters here on Tuesday
that the campus would come up at Vithura on a 25-acre campus.
The State Government has already handed over the land near IISER campus in Vithura.
The activities of IGNOU Bangalore
in Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Pondicherry and Lakshadweep
will be coordinated by this campus. The campus have all the modern
facilities needed for a new age university complex.
They include a
student support centre, computer centre, training centre, full-time
campus rooms, community college, library, conference room, Gyanvani FM
studio, Teleconference centre, satellite terminal, evaluation centre,
guest house and students’ hostel.
The campus would also have facilities dealing with admission and preparation and distribution of study materials, he said.
IGNOU has 64 regional centres in the country. It has also extended its operation to 36 foreign countries, Pillai said.
