Forty-three days of One Day celebration

images_40596597094988_1.jpg Give India a chance to celebrate, and you can see the magic. Did you get my point? World Cup is back people! Just have a look at your surroundings or try to eavesdrop, I am sure the predominant topic these days would that be regarding World Cup. And why not? We get to experience this feeling only once in four years.

The tenth ICC World Cup is more special for obvious reasons. The Indian Subcontinent is in the limelight again. So we Indians, who have yearned to see the World Cup right in front of our eyes, have finally got the opportunity to see the biggest battle of cricket. Fourteen teams will compete for this biggest title of cricket. Group A consists of Australia, Pakistan, New Zealand, Sri Lanka, Zimbabwe, Canada and Kenya. Group B on the other hand consists of India, South Africa, England, West Indies, Bangladesh, Ireland and Netherlands.

The opening ceremony was held in Bangabandhu National Stadium in Dhaka, Bangladesh on 17th February 2011. The fight has already begun on 19th February 2011, where India displayed a brilliant game of cricket against Bangladesh.

This time for Football

It's one fever that you love to endure. Actually 'endure' is not the correct term to use. It's more like the one fever you want to enjoy more often. But unfortunately, it relapses every four years, has the potential of causing national wars and breaks and makes many million hearts in its wake. This is football season folks, 'waka waka' time if you permit. Yes, yes…we have heard all about the controversy. We may have caught up late but we have arrived alright.

Shakira's 'Waka Waka', the tournament's official anthem is causing trouble among South Africans as they feel that justice has not been done to this version of a Cameroonian song called 'Zangalewa'. The fact that the anthem for South Africa's World Cup is not sung by a South African is the point many critics are raising.

But are you sure that you have the right stock of World Cup Trivia to catch everybody's attention during an animated discussion? We do. Hope you find it interesting as well.

1) The first world cup soccer match kicked off on July 13th, 1930 in Uruguay with France beating Mexico 4 to 1.

Cheering for Hockey

Hockey_40234727835688_1.jpg

What does it take to popularise a game in our Country in which it had once ruled the world? A simple question, but a million dollar one. Passionate fans, an officiating body with members who are honest to the game, focussed and dedicated team of organisers, 'Good Luck India' promotions, sponsors who are sincere and may be a superhit film with Shahrukh Khan in the lead.

Good Luck India', is a signature movement by a Corporate House that seeks to flag off Team India's World Cup Hockey campaign in the right track. Hockey as India's national sport has been in a state of general decline for a while now. Hockey players in our country do not receive the kind of support and fan following that is common in other parts of the world. Neither does it match the favour that sportsperson in other fields, cricket mainly, receive.

Viewed in this context, a lot really hinges on the fate of the 12-nation Hero Honda FIH World Cup starting at the Dhyan Chand National Stadium in Delhi from February 28. The participating countries are: Pakistan, India, Korea, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Netherlands, Germany, Spain, England, Argentina and Canada.
