After the success of the gargantuan task of re-creating music for the super hit film ‘Don’ the magical trio SEL ‘Shankar Ehsaan Loy’ is back again with ‘Salaam-e-Ishq’ a film by Nikhil Advani. Teamed with the evergreen lyrics of Sameer, the music directors have brought a new surprise for all movie buffs. In this age of re-mixes, their album Salaam-e-Ishq contains not even a single re-mix track of the seven songs in the album.
The film entails some of the biggest names in the industry, performing as six different couples, 12 individuals all threaded in the same rope- Love.
The music directors have brought together the current top vocalists of bollywood, to sing in the album. Famous names like Sonu Nigham, Sadhana Sargam, Shreya Ghoshal, Kunal Ganjawala and Shankar Mahadevan himself have all contributed their voices to the melodious and meaningful lyrics of Sameer.
The album begins with a song by Adnan Sami ‘Dil Kya Kare’. The unique voice quality of the singer adds a different meaning to the beautiful lyrics of the song. The Caribbean and country music by SEL rocks the number. The song is a good start to the album.
The second number ‘Saiyaan Re’ in the voice of Shilpa, Shankar Mahadevan & Loy Mendonsa begins as a quavvali but soon picks up a western beat. It’s a peppy number with great beats. The song might sound even better with the performance on screen.
The trio has given chance to a number of new comers in this album. Apart from Shilpa, there is another new voice Nihira, who teams up with Shaan for ‘Mera Dil’, a typical love song. It is a youthful number, but there is nothing special about it except for the melodious tune. The fact that Shaan sounds absolutely at ease with the new comer might get the song a few extra brownies.
The title number of the album Salaam-e-Ishq sung by Sonu Nigam, Shreya Ghoshal, Kunal Ganjawala, Sadhna Sargam and Shankar Mahadevan is undoubtedly the best song in the entire album though it comes much later in the sequence. The Bagpiper tune of the song is its biggest attraction, not to forget the catchy lyrics and the peppy beats.
Few other numbers like ‘Tenu Leke’ and ‘Ya Rabba’, are not too impressive, but are a good addition to the album. The SEL trio is known for their uniqueness and their style of doing things differently for every album they create. With Salaam-e-Ishq they have re-created ‘Babuji Dhire Chalna’ from the old film ‘Aar Paar’ and have managed to do a decent job at it too.
Overall, a decent album and a good possession for all bollywood lovers.
